Product Overview

This is a Twin over Full Bunk Bed Plan showing how to build a stackable, twin-over-full bunk. That simply means that it can separate into two beds, one twin and one full-sized. It can be made stackable or with solid posts. When you finish building this bed, it will easily accommodate adult weight. It is designed to hold standard size mattresses (one twin and one full). The bunk bed plans have over 20 pages of great information, tips and detailed drawings that make it so easy that a beginner can do it! The plans explain where to buy and how to select lumber, cut it, sand it, drill it, and paint or stain it so that it looks like a professionally built piece of furniture. Once you assemble your beautiful wooden bunk bed you will realize that it is far superior to many commercial models and will hold up for many years. The drawers are so sturdy that a full grown adult or two can stand up in them without damaging them. The plan has a quick shopping list so that you can head right out and find the wood and supplies that you need to get started. This Twin over Full Bunk Bed Plan calls for common lumber and materials that are easy to find. It tells you how to select the wood and supplies so that the finished bed looks and functions great. Beginners can build this with no woodworking experience. The needed tools are a circular saw, an electric drill, a power sander and a few bits. We have included the materials list below so that you can calculate the material costs.

The bunk bed plans have directions for the bunk bed only, or the twin over full bunk bed with two storage drawers. Free plans are available for set of three storage drawers or trundle bed on our free plans page.  This stackable bunk bed measures 67 1/2" tall by 81" long by 57 1/2 inches wide and holds standard size mattresses (one twin and one full). If a trundle underneath is desired, the trundle measures 74” in length and holds a twin mattress that is 68” in length. The finished bed will stand up to daily use for many years and continue to look nice. Many of the beds we have manufactured have been in daily use in hotels, camps, shelters and other institutions for 15 years or more, supporting adult weight and still look great.

The hardware kit has all hardware needed to complete the bunk bed only, or bunk with storage drawers or trundle bed underneath.  It includes all fasteners and black plated furniture lags that give the bunk a professional appearance. Additional hardware such as wooden drawer handles and heavy-duty carpet casters for the storage or trundle drawers is available by ordering the bed and drawers hardware kit.

Our hardware kits contain all metal parts that go into the bed and the wooden dowels. We include high-quality, black plated, decorative lag screws and assembly grade parts and wood screws. The drawer and trundle kits have casters and nice wooden handles included. Our prices are competitive and the quality is unbeatable. (*Please note that the required lumber to build the bed and drawers is not included in the hardware kit.*)

We offer free shipping on hardware kits to the 50 United States (if you live outside the US and need a hardware kit or printed plan, please contact us).

great design and easy to follow instructions

Posted by Jeffrey Morray on 7th Sep 2018

First time buyer from Bunk Beds Unlimited. Quite happy with the process and the results: a professional-appearing bed that will stand up to grandson abuse. A few recommendations: 1. Buy their hardware. It is good quality. The black lag bolts look better than what you would purchase at most hardware stores. 2. Pick through your lumber carefully prior to purchase. This will save you surfacing time. 3. If you don't have a planer and belt sander, consider asking the lumber yard to plane and sand your boards. It was the best $80 I spent. 4. Useful tools (in addition to those recommended): a chop saw for cross cuts and a router for the edges.

Very strong design, rugged looking, and 5 years later still perfect

I bought the plans for our mountain home 5+ years ago. Easy to build, assemble, and is quite strong. It has a beautiful rugged look to it. When stained, even more lovely.

    great plans!

Posted by Ruben on 28th Jul 2015

These plans are great! I did not expect the bed to be as sturdy as it was. The instructions were a little tricky, but I got through it. Definitely sit down and read through them a couple times. Hardware kit came with plenty of extras if you need it. The ladder rail sides are spread too far apart for smaller kids (4 year old) to use. I'd like an option to build some type of ladder or stairs. As a suggestion, spend more time with a good sander before staining your wood!
