Very Sturdy Bunk Beds

This is a Stackable Bunk Bed we built from the very same plan that we sell. We took this bunk bed photograph in our store a few years ago with five adults on it. The bed held up well and could have held more weight. The last of our 6 children are still using the first bed that we built over 20 years ago and it is still as solid and sturdy as the day we built it.

If you are looking for a plan to build a bunk bed or loft bed that is safe, can withstand heavy use and last for years, you are in the right place. Our bed plans conform to all of the CPSC federal safety standards.

These drawers were 15 years old when this picture was taken. They have been through some heavy use with four boys!

Bunk Beds That Last

We have been building bunk beds for over 20 years. In that time we have learned many things about good and bad construction and fit and finish. What things make a bunk bed plan something that someone can follow and produce a bed that is a decent piece of furniture and most importantly safe to use is what we specialize in.

We manufacture beds almost exclusively for commercial customers now. In early 2011, we received a repeat order from a client. While at their facility, a heavily used homeless shelter, I got a chance to see some bunk beds that we built for them about ten previously. Those beds were in amazingly good shape considering the type of environment they had endured. They were still solid (not shaky) and looked great despite the use and abuse that they have undergone on a daily basis for 10 years. We originally supplied the location with 50 bunk beds and they are still using every one of them today.

The plans we have used for years in manufacturing are fundamentally the same as those we sell for the do-it-yourself market. They are designed to be tough and safe yet elegant. A local architect that purchased two beds told me that the plans were “elegant designs” and that he intended for not only his children and grandchildren to use, but also his great-grandchildren. I took that as a huge compliment.
